Functional Testing Services

We provide partners with the critical information they need, empowering them to make the correct (and crucial) project or scheduling decisions that result in the highest cumulative impact.

Pillars of Test: Planning - We create test plans, specs, passes, tours, attacks and scenarios, all of which continue to evolve as features and systems come online or are modified throughout the development cycle. Execution - We provide robust testing through test casing, directed ad-hoc and exploratory approaches. Generate - All testing activities generate valuable game data, enabling us to confidently assess area health. EGS STEs (software test engineers) use this data to assess testing effectiveness and reach our goal of shipping your title with the highest prioritized coverage possible. Analysis - We analyze and assess our coverage needs daily and weekly. Teams use tooling to provide true confidence assessments enabling our production partners to make informed decisions. Feedback Loop - As a trusted partner, we provide valid, subjective, and impactful feedback enabling production teams to create the quality products they envision. Session-Based Testing - We promote and develop group-directed ad-hoc sessions with a discussion and feedback loop to redirect testing based on tester feedback. Scenario-Focused Testing - We utilize customer data to prioritize features & content testing ensuring we are "touring” the aspects of the game our consumers care about the most. Testing Tours - We test the game through the lens of a tester. Specific types of failures are identified, and mini-impromptu-passes are completed to maximize efficiency and coverage for those types of failures. Test Attacks - Test Attacks focus on trying (aggressively) to break the game, services, and input functionality. Race conditions and stress testing are common focuses of our test attacks. User Scenarios - We develop narratives, personas, and scenarios by engaging in user research in order to communicate throughout the testing process. Developer Stories - A common production method is to create user stories (design), then develop features to achieve the functionality of those user stories (design). We validate the user stories during and after feature development. Data-Driven Coverage - We utilize a combination of source control data, bug data, game telemetry to identify the areas of greatest risk and use tools and dashboards to guide our testers to the areas of the game we need the most/immediate coverage.

Stress and Load Testing

Understanding how your game performs with millions of players is key to a successful launch and keeping players engaged for the entire game. We can help you configure group playtests or tools that provide your game development and product teams with the critical information they need to make it happen.

Group Playtests - Having dozens of players test your game concurrently produces a large amount of high-fidelity and tactile feedback. We know how to plan and execute large scale playtests (also known as Bug Bashes) that enable us to quickly generate test coverage and actionable, subjective, feedback to improve your customer experience. Tools and Automation - We have a very capable engineering team that builds efficiency tools and automation improving our efficiency and workflows.

Group Playtests

We find and staff large and secure playtest groups for your titles. You provide us with the number of concurrent players desired and a coverage area or test plan, and we will take care of the rest.

  • Concurrent Playtest Planning: Our leads guide you to configure a playgroup and a plan that begins, ramps up, and reacts according to your internal team's situation
  • Synchronized Scheduling and Execution: When it is time to test, the work of our lead gets the team started and orchestrates them step by step until you say stop
  • Lockstep Teamwork: Our leads understand that group tests are more of a dance than a motion. Our playtests are conducted by someone listening to your teams and making on-the-fly adjustments to your development team or backend tools to get the most out of your pass.
  • Compilation and Recommendation: After a playtest, our leads compile partner and vendor data into a report that is easy to understand and act on with your development, operations, and other teams

Tools and Automation

  • Requirements Gathering: Our tool engineers know how to work with your teams and gather requirements to achieve the stress and load results you seek
  • Design and Conquer: Before anything is built, our engineers will reach out to your team to understand the parameters of automation that produce valuable feedback. Questions such as, "What does your backend look like?” “What telemetry are you trying to gather?” “What gameplay can we perform to create that data?"
  • Bespoke Engineering: Experis Game Solutions tool engineers will dive down into your title's client, backend, deployment, or operations to understand where they can interface automation with your game

Hardware Compatibility for PC and Mobile

Network Performance Assessment and Testing

In today's connected world, software must connect to servers and remain stable while meeting network traffic requirements for certification across multiple platforms. Experis Game Solutions has experienced teams which utilize industry standard tools with dozens of years of experience that have come together to define the testing flow for connected titles. This work ranges from PC to mobile, to the latest generation of consoles.

Lag Switch Emulation - A typical exploit: user disrupts network traffic between client and host to momentarily obtain an advantage. We emulate this environment in our testing using NEWT and Clumsy to ensure our products avoid these types of exploits. NAT Connections - Matchmaking in nearly all titles prefers an OPEN NAT for connections to remain smooth for all players. We can test your product for NAT compatibility by spoofing NAT options across devices. Disconnects - By severing the network connection completely at specific times throughout the user experience, we can observe how the title responds to those situations through WAN & LAG, wireless connectivity, and low bandwidth. Throttling - Our throttling techniques involve hindering the existing connection using various tools to mimic network jams that may occur in an everyday environment such as latency, packet loss, and bandwidth. Call Manipulation - We use call manipulation which entails affecting or adding specific service parameters while retaining an unhindered connection which includes call blocking, blocking platform network traffic and blocking title-specific traffic.
