Senior Data Business Analyst

Our client is seeking a Senior Data Business Analyst to join their team in Jersey City, New Jersey. As a Senior Data Business Analyst, you will act as a bridge between business stakeholders and data-technical teams, helping ensure data-driven solutions meet business requirements efficiently and accurately. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical problem-solving, clear stakeholder communication, and a detail-oriented focus on data accuracy.

What's the Job?

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document data-related requirements.
• Translate business needs into functional and technical specifications for data engineering teams, including data use cases, KPIs, and business rules.
• Support data engineering efforts by understanding and documenting ETL/ELT processes, data pipelines, and data warehousing solutions.
• Act as a liaison between business users, data engineers, and IT teams—facilitating workshops, meetings, and requirement walkthroughs to ensure alignment.
• Create and maintain business and technical documentation (BRDs, FSDs, data dictionaries, and metadata) and support testing/validation activities including UAT and defect resolution.

What's Needed?

• Strong understanding of business analysis methodologies with experience supporting data engineering and data warehousing projects.
• Proficiency in SQL for data analysis and validation, plus familiarity with data modeling concepts (e.g., star schema, snowflake).
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools such as Informatica, Talend, Azure Data Factory, or AWS Glue.
• Knowledge of data quality frameworks and data validation practices, including data mapping, lineage, and transformation logic.
• Experience working with tools and workflows such as JIRA and Azure DevOps, and the ability to create data flow diagrams and documentation using Visio/Lucidchart and analysis using Excel/Power BI/Tableau.
