Automotive HIL Engineer

Our client, an automotive validation and engineering organization, is seeking a Automotive HIL Engineer to join their team. As a Automotive HIL Engineer, you will be part of the engineering organization supporting automotive hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) system design, build, commissioning, maintenance, and feature validation. The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting skills, the ability to work with complex test systems, and a commitment to safety and quality which will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title: Automotive HIL Engineer

Location: Auburn Hills, Michigan (Onsite)

What's the Job?

• Design HIL architectures and develop bills of materials (BOM) and wiring documentation for automotive validation systems.
• Support procurement activities, HIL system build, and bench commissioning to ensure readiness for testing.
• Configure models and execute open-loop and closed-loop testing to validate automotive features.
• Maintain bench readiness, perform required system updates, and ensure test environments remain stable and compliant.
• Troubleshoot HIL issues, drive corrective actions, and generate clear reporting to support validation progress.

What's Needed?

• Hands-on experience with dSPACE, ControlDesk, and ConfigurationDesk for HIL development and test workflows.
• Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink for model configuration and test execution.
• Working knowledge of CAN, LIN, and Ethernet communication interfaces used in automotive systems.
• Strong electronics fundamentals and the ability to support wiring documentation and bench integration.
• Experience with diagnostics and the ability to follow applicable safety requirements during system operation and validation.
