The ideal candidate will have strong ownership mindset, cross-functional collaboration, and deep technical fluency in liquid cooling and hydraulic systems which will align successfully in the organization.
Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Liquid Cooling Systems
Location: Redmond, WA | Fully Onsite
Contract: Up to 18 months
What's the Job?
- Lead the mechanical design of advanced liquid cooling and fluid distribution systems for modular AI data center platforms, owning cooling architecture from heat rejection through rack-level interfaces.
- Define scalable system boundaries and strategies for pumping, flow control, pressure management, balancing, redundancy, and performance across normal, part-load, maintenance, startup, and failure conditions.
- Perform and review hydraulic and mechanical calculations, including pipe sizing, pressure-drop analysis, pump-head and system-volume modeling for water- and glycol-based systems.
- Own and maintain P&IDs, mechanical schematics, equipment schedules, valve schedules, instrumentation requirements, basis-of-design documents, and standard details with disciplined revision control.
- Partner with manufacturing, controls, commissioning, supply chain, and field teams to translate requirements into repeatable designs that can be fabricated, deployed, serviced, and scaled across multiple sites.
What's Needed?
- 7+ years of experience designing mechanical cooling, hydraulic distribution, process cooling, or mission-critical infrastructure systems.
- Experience in data centers, semiconductor facilities, industrial process cooling, central utility plants, or comparable high-reliability environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of pipe sizing, pump selection, pressure-drop analysis, flow balancing, system volume, and hydraulic control.
- Proven experience developing and owning P&IDs, mechanical calculations, equipment schedules, valve schedules, and instrumentation requirements.
- Practical knowledge of chilled-water, condenser-water, glycol, or process-fluid systems, including design for commissioning, maintenance, isolation, flushing, venting, draining, and service access.
What's in it for me?
- Work on high-impact liquid cooling infrastructure that supports demanding, high-reliability environments for AI and other critical workloads.
- Build repeatable, standards-driven mechanical designs that shape product architecture and enable scalable deployment across multiple configurations.
- Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, controls, commissioning, and field teams to solve complex system challenges with meaningful autonomy.
- Translate system requirements into designs that are manufacturable, testable, and serviceable—bridging engineering intent to real-world execution.
- Contribute to technical standards, interfaces, and commissioning practices that improve performance verification and reduce risk during startup and troubleshooting.
