Our client, a leader in critical facility engineering and controls delivery, is seeking a Senior BAS (Building Automation Systems) Design Engineer to join their team. As a Sr. Engineer, you will support building automation and controls delivery for hyperscale data center environments. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical rigor, clear communication, and a collaborative mindset that will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title: Senior BAS (Building Automation Systems) Design Engineer

Location: Redmond, WA (Fully Remote; no onsite requirement; occasional or ad-hoc travel possible if needed)

Pay Range: $60/Hour on W2 (with some Flex)

(NO C2C or 3rd Party vendor candidates)

What's the Job?

  • Review Building Automation System (BAS) vendor and integrator submittals (shop drawings, controls programming, sequences of operations, points lists, controls schematics, riser and network architecture diagrams, panel and device schedules, bill of materials, and product data) for compliance with Microsoft controls design standards and design intent.
  • Issue technically grounded review comments, track them to closure through package revisions, and recommend approval status with a focus on accuracy, completeness, and constructability.
  • Validate controls hardware and communication architectures across common protocols and platforms, including BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, MQTT, and DDC controllers, PLC, and SCADA integration.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and facility engineering counterparts on design reviews, RFIs, and field issues raised against submittals to ensure reliability, resiliency, and operability for critical and mission-critical facilities.
  • As the program grows, produce BAS submittal packages directly—developing sequences of operations, points lists, network architecture, riser diagrams, controls schematics, panel and device schedules, and specifications using the same structure and rigor applied to EPMS submittals.

What's Needed?

  • 10+ years of experience in BAS and controls design, including producing complete BAS design packages (sequences of operations, points lists, controls schematics, riser and network architecture diagrams, panel and device schedules, and specifications).
  • 10+ years of experience reviewing BAS vendor and integrator submittals against a design standard, issuing technically grounded comments, and driving closure through package revisions.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience with building automation protocols and controls platforms, including BACnet and Modbus, plus DDC and PLC controls platforms with network architecture and device-level integration.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC and mechanical/electrical systems as they relate to controls integration for critical facility environments.
  • Proficiency with design and documentation tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Visio, along with strong written and verbal communication skills to represent design intent to integrators, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

What's in it for me?

  • Work on BAS and controls delivery at hyperscale data center scale, where design rigor and consistency matter across a portfolio of sites.
  • Start with vendor submittal review and expand into producing BAS submittal packages directly as the program grows.
  • Collaborate daily with mechanical, electrical, and facility engineering counterparts to resolve design gaps and improve standardization.
  • Contribute to mature, centrally governed controls design standards—your reviews and designs help shape outcomes across multiple projects.
  • Opportunity for extension (Y).

Upon completion of waiting period consultants are eligible for:

  • Medical and Prescription Drug Plans
  • Dental Plan
  • Vision Plan
  • Health Savings Account
  • 401(k), Plus Match
  • Weekly Pay
