Power Originator / Trader

Our client, the energy industry, is seeking a Power Originator / Trader to join their team. As a Power Originator / Trader, you will be part of the power trading and origination department supporting the development of new trading capabilities. The ideal candidate will have strong market knowledge, entrepreneurial spirit, and a collaborative mindset which will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title: Power Originator / Trader

Location: Austin, TX, with a related need in London. This role is remote during the initial phase, with in-person work expected within the first year.

What's the Job?

• Build and develop power trading and origination strategies within the ERCOT market.
• Identify, structure, negotiate, and bring power deals and products to market.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop trading processes, controls, and operating procedures.
• Engage with counterparties and stakeholders to optimize transaction outcomes.
• Contribute to establishing risk management practices and reporting frameworks.

What's Needed?

• Deep familiarity with ERCOT and Texas power markets, including direct market participation.
• Experience in power origination, commercial transactions, or environmental product trading.
• Proven ability to structure, negotiate, and market power or environmental deals.
• Experience working in a startup or build-stage energy environment with evolving systems and processes.
• Strong communication skills and a builder mentality, eager to develop new processes and frameworks.
