Cloud Security Engineer (GCP Data Security)

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid)
Duration: Long-Term Contract
Pay: 60/hr W2 or 70/hr C2C

Overview

Our banking client is seeking a Cloud Security Engineer with strong experience securing data platforms within Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role is focused on database and data security, specifically implementing and assessing security controls for BigQuery and Firestore environments containing sensitive customer data.

This is not a general cloud security role. The ideal candidate understands how to secure cloud-hosted databases through IAM, encryption, DLP, logging, monitoring, and data protection best practices.

Responsibilities

• Assess and secure GCP data platforms, primarily BigQuery and Firestore
• Implement and recommend security controls for sensitive and regulated data
• Design and review IAM roles, permissions, and access control models
• Evaluate encryption strategies for data at rest and in transit
• Implement Data Loss Prevention (DLP) controls and data protection standards
• Review logging, monitoring, audit, and alerting capabilities
• Identify security risks and provide remediation recommendations
• Support cloud security reviews for APIs, backend services, and GCP-hosted applications
• Partner with engineering and architecture teams to ensure security best practices are implemented

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of Cloud Security Engineering or Cloud Security Architecture experience
• Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Experience securing BigQuery, Firestore, Cloud Storage, or similar cloud-based data platforms
• Deep understanding of:
  • IAM and Access Controls
  • Data Security & Data Protection
  • Encryption & Key Management
  • Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
  • Security Logging & Monitoring
  • Risk Assessments and Security Reviews
• Experience protecting PII, PCI, or other regulated customer data

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with GCP IAM, Cloud KMS, Secret Manager, Shared VPC, GKE, or Cloud Run
• Knowledge of API security (OAuth, mTLS, service-to-service authentication)
• Experience in financial services or regulated environments
• Familiarity with NIST, PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, or SOC2 frameworks
• Exposure to Terraform or Policy-as-Code concepts
