Job Title: Packaging Engineer Assistant
Location: Montvale/Parsippany, NJ 07645 (must work hybrid 3 days onsite, 2 days remote, plus some travel, when needed, to local manufacturing sites)
Duration: 12+ month long term contract until March 2028
Pay Range: $45/hr W2

Our client, a leading consumer packaged goods organization within the home care and household products sector, is seeking a Packaging Engineer Assistant to support high-growth omni-channel and eCommerce packaging initiatives. This hybrid role is based in Parsippany, NJ/Montvale, NJ with a minimum of three days onsite and up to two days remote each week. The position focuses on package development, commercialization, Amazon-ready packaging, and cross-functional project execution across a diverse portfolio of household brands. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with packaging design, testing, validation, documentation, and Amazon packaging certification requirements. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with R&D, Supply Chain, Quality, Marketing, Project Management, manufacturing partners, and suppliers while managing multiple packaging projects from concept through commercialization. Travel to manufacturing sites may be required up to 25%.

What’s the Job

  • Lead and support omni-channel and eCommerce packaging projects with a strong focus on Amazon-ready packaging initiatives.
  • Redesign packaging for prep-free, SIOC (Ships In Own Container), and SIPP requirements, including material selection, cost estimating, sampling, validation, and documentation.
  • Manage Amazon SIOC certification activities, including ISTA 6 Amazon.com testing, PSSN submissions, and resolution of certification issues.
  • Collaborate with Packaging, Omni-Channel, Quality, R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain, Project Management, suppliers, and contract manufacturing partners.
  • Ensure packaging meets product protection, functionality, manufacturability, sustainability, cost, and consumer requirements.
  • Support artwork development through die line creation and packaging specification management.
  • Coordinate and evaluate packaging compatibility testing, validation studies, and third-party testing programs.
  • Create and maintain specifications, bills of materials, pallet patterns, component codes, change requests, and project documentation.
  • Support packaging trials, troubleshooting, and commercialization activities at manufacturing sites as needed.

What’s Needed
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering required. Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering degrees will also be considered.
  • 2 to 5 years of packaging commercialization experience within consumer packaged goods (CPG) environments.
  • Experience with package development, testing, packaging materials, components, sealing systems, assembly processes, print technologies, and document management.
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon SIOC certification, ISTA 6 Amazon.com testing, and Amazon Packaging Support and Supplier Network (PSSN).
  • Knowledge of packaging validation, product compatibility testing, and commercialization processes.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and assembly operations, including filling, capping, sealing, labeling, coding, packing, palletizing, storage, and transportation.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, TOPS, and project management systems.
  • Strong organizational, presentation, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to recommend sustainable packaging solutions, including considerations for PCR content, recyclability, and fit-for-purpose design.
