Senior Data Center Project Manager
25% remote, 75% on-site in Albany, NY
1 year contract assignment

Notes from manager:

  • Voice Engineer role, NOT Project Manager.
  • Direct customers are employees - ensuring they have the correct tools, infrastructure, and network to do their jobs.
  • Heavily invests in cloud platform.
  • Client has switched over the Webex calling - supporting all telecoms services
  • No people-management component to this role.

Must Have:
  • Extreme expert level knowledge of Cisco and Cisco Meraki cloud platform, network services that ride on top of those (DHCP, DNS, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Webex calling and management of cloud-based callings services.
  • Experience with LAN, WAN, SDWAN.
  • Experience working in physical buildings/networks and cloud-based facilities to coordinate network services.

Typically, week looks like:
  • Bi-weekly or weekly day travel to NYC to support, rack and stack cable, configuration with equipment manufacture support team, refreshing network equipment in offices, etc.
  • Support requests coming into the service desk re: network performance, issues, etc.
  • Working with cloud architecture team to ensure the Authority is adhering the network best practices.

Department: IT Operations
Our client uses industry standard datacenter and client edge computer network equipment to provide services to all the computing resources.
This position directly supports all computer network local- and wide-area network connectivity delivering services to all employees, applications and external partners.
Laptop to be provided by our client, contractor is required to have access to reliable high speed internet.

Mandatory Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate is trained and experienced with Cisco and Extreme network equipment and the tools used to support those network environments. The position is directly responsible for designing, installing and maintaining computer networks in new-construction spaces and supporting organizational growth.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Cisco network and voice products.
  • Expert-level technical knowledge of network services (DHCP, DNS, etc.).
  • Ability to travel within New York State to perform physical work on network and voice infrastructure 
  • Expert-level experience managing vendor relationships and vendor oversight

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science in Computer Science or an Associate’s Degree -plus 1-2 years of relevant work experience. 

IT Systems That Will Be Used:
LAN, WAN, SDWAN, Internet connectivity, Cisco Catalyst IOS, Silverpeak/Aruba/HPe and the Cisco Meraki cloud platform
Responsibilities:
  • Manage LAN/SDWAN and Voice services across the enterprise.
  • Develop, support, and maintain voice services to meet the needs of NYSERDA teams.
  • Provide leadership training to IT support staff for voice MADC tasks.
  • Assure that support & maintenance contracts for software and hardware are current.
  • Design, implement and document IP network architecture and services.
  • Schedule & handle off-hours support and outages, leverage CMDB for change management.
  • Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages and/or emails regarding IT infrastructure problems.
  • Operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories.
  • Become familiar with and follow change management policies.
  • Escalate outage situations to appropriate IT management.
  • Document all network changes graphically and through the change management database (CMDB).
  • Work with server administrators at various cloud-based facilities to coordinate network services.
  • Other duties as assigned that contribute to the key outcomes of the IT Operations team.
