System Development Engineer

Our client, a leading organization in cloud infrastructure and service optimization, is seeking a System Development Engineer to join their team. As a System Development Engineer, you will be part of the innovative engineering department supporting large-scale service migration and performance enhancement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, a proactive mindset, and excellent collaboration abilities, which will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title: System Development Engineer (DRAM Memory Optimization - Rustification & Service Migration)

Location: Seattle, WA

Pay Range:$70-75/hr on w2
 

What's the Job?

• Lead end-to-end migration of services from Java to Rust to optimize memory and latency performance.
• Design and define type hierarchies, module boundaries, and API contracts to facilitate efficient service migration.
• Implement, validate, and optimize Rust-based services, ensuring functional equivalence with existing systems.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to execute safe rollouts, monitor performance, and manage rollback procedures.
• Document reusable learnings, create migration guides, and improve frameworks to streamline future migrations.

What's Needed?

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5-7+ years of experience developing and operating backend services in large-scale production environments.
• Hands-on experience building, deploying, and maintaining production Rust applications, including ownership, borrowing, and async runtimes.
• Proficiency in performance and memory optimization techniques, profiling, benchmarking, and reducing memory footprints.
• Experience with service migration or rewriting services across languages, ensuring API compatibility and functional correctness.
