JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Applications and Database Administrator I Job Code: 13443 Generic Job Title: Database Administrator I Position Status: Regular Position Level: Individual Contributor I Full-Time/Part-Time: Full Time Bargaining Unit: Nonrepresented FLSA Classification: Exempt Reports To: VP of IT Infrastructure Date: 09/08/2022 Date revised: 06/24/2026 Summary/objective Under general supervision, the Applications & Database Administrator I is responsible for the administration of assigned applications and managing database systems ensuring the availability and consistent performance of the ISM Department’s Applications in addition to providing basic applications support. Performs related duties as assigned. Essential functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. • Administer and maintain enterprise database management systems (DBMS) to ensure the availability, integrity, security, and performance of organizational databases across development, test, and production environments. • Design, create, modify, and maintain database structures and objects, including databases, tables, indexes, stored procedures, triggers, views, and related components to support business applications and reporting needs. • Analyze user, application, and business requirements and collaborate with developers, analysts, DevOps teams, and end-users to develop and maintain effective database solutions. • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize database performance through performance tuning, execution plan analysis, capacity planning, and implementation of database best practices. • Manage database changes, deployments, and code migrations across environments, including testing, validation, implementation, and production support activities. • Administer database security and access controls by provisioning user accounts, managing permissions, enforcing information security policies, and participating in security reviews and audits. • Perform database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery operations, including planning, testing, validation, and execution of restoration and business continuity procedures. • Support database-related application services and integrations, including transaction processing, ETL processes, data replication, reporting platforms, and enterprise applications. • Monitor database health and system operations using administrative tools, utilities, logs, and performance metrics to ensure service-level objectives are achieved. • Provide technical support and problem resolution for database and application-related issues by working closely with Help Desk personnel, developers, administrators, and end-users. • Document database configurations, procedures, standards, and technical findings and share knowledge with team members to support operational consistency and continuous improvement. • Support enterprise infrastructure operations and special assignments, including software upgrades, patch management, high-availability environments, after-hours support, on call responsibilities, and other IT initiatives as assigned. • Performs related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of • Fundamentals of Oracle and SQL database server application systems. • SQL Server Programming Language: Transact-SQL (T-SQL). • Database management system architecture and design, including integration with internal and external systems. • Enterprise-class database management and reporting systems. • Database reporting tools such as SSRS, Business Objects, Oracle BI, and Power BI. • General software programming concepts (proficiency in a programming language is an asset). • System, application, and database log file analysis and interpretation. Skills in • Creating and managing SQL Server database maintenance plans. • Creating, modifying, and maintaining database objects, including tables, stored procedures, and triggers. • Writing, executing, and troubleshooting scripts using PowerShell, CMD commands, and T-SQL. • Implementing, administering, and supporting enterprise database management and reporting solutions. • Reading, analyzing, and resolving issues identified in system, application, and database logs. • Conducting presentations and communicating technical information effectively. • Time management, organization, and attention to detail. • Verbal and written communication. • Analytical thinking and problem-solving. • Microsoft Office applications including Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word Ability to • Design, implement, and operate enterprise-class database management and reporting systems. • Understand and integrate database solutions with internal and external systems. • Work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. • Think systemically and apply structured approaches to problem-solving. • Analyze complex technical issues and develop effective solutions. • Prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and consistently meet deadlines. • Present technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Alternative Qualifications An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered upon review by HR.
